Star of Bethlehem
I haven't been able to pinpoint this newfound love beyond mere beauty, but this Christmas it struck me: we carry the same purpose as this little star.
Stars shine in the darkness, but they make no light of their own. They only reflect the great light of the sun.
And this particular star is a beacon of hope in the sky. A declaration that the Savior is come. A testimony to the true light coming into the world. This star points the way to the light it displays.
That is the Christian walk. We shine the light of the world, the Son of Man, the Son of God, in the world. We are radiant in His presence, and like Moses after being in the presence of God, we reflect that glory everywhere we go.
And in a world full of so much darkness, we point to the hope of the world. When people draw into us, they are drawn into Jesus. Into His resting place.
A light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it as John 1 tells us. And we get to display that light to the rest of the world day after day, pointing a weary world--those seeking God and those, like the wise men, seeking other answers--to living hope.
Like this star, may we rest where Jesus is, may we display His light, may we point others to Him, and when people see us, may they respond with "Where is he who was born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him" (Matthew 2:2).
